Is it a method or just madness?

Insanity (def): Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

When does P90X season 2 start?  Or do you just watch re-runs forever?  That would never get old.

For those who know me, my philosophy has always been “doing something is better than doing nothing at all”.  These programs, and those like them, all have similar merit, but where they lack is in definition and symetry.  Two things will happen when you follow these programs: 1) you will increase your capacity to consume oxygen more efficiently (have better cardio), and 2) will eventually never watch it again.  I can bet, with almost 100% accuracy, you know someone who has bought one of these programs and does not use it.  Even better yet, didn’t complete the program.  Does that mean they don’t work?  How many Insanity gyms or P90X studios do you see in the area?

CrossFit works because it is defined and is specific in its programming.  It has goals, standards, benchmarks, and an entire community that serves no other purpose than the betterment of the fitness world.  The program is constantly evolving in its methods to improve its athletes across broad spectrums and modal domains.  Try finding that in a collection of DVDs.
