Heavy Day

Posted: April 12, 2011 by Jason in WODs

This is the only heavy day we have planned, at least until this week’s WOD is posted.  The rest of the week’s programming will be based around what CFHQ has in store.

Take the opportunity today to work on the Clean.  In order to move a significant amount of weight from the ground to your shoulders you must become proficient in this lift.  Besides the Squat, it is quite possibly the single best movement you can do.  It’s completely functional, requires strength, speed, agility, coordination, and balance.  It is a powerful movement that must be performed in sequence in order to be successful.  How is it functional?  Pick your kid up from the ground so you can carry her to bed.  Put the 40lb bag of dog food in the trunk of your car.  Better yet, take it out (hang power clean).  The problem is we have misused our body for so long and trained our backs to take all the weight.  By mobilizing your hips, quads and hams, you take the weak link out of the equasion and save yourself a long road of back problems.  Every successful athlete has learned to do this.  You are an athlete.  Be successful!
